Bronze Bust of a Woman, Kinshasa School, Zaire
Masamba — 1989
Bronze bust depicting a stylized woman, mounted on a precious wood base. Bronze sculpture experienced a revival in Zaire (DRC) starting in the 1980s, with the production of pieces in copper alloys, often representing idealized female figures. This artistic movement developed within the context of the political movement of returning to roots and "Zairianization" promoted by President Mobutu. Blending African traditions with modern aesthetics, it aimed to develop a distinct and contemporary culture and imagery. The bust is signed MASAMBA, 1989, on the base.
Dimensions approximately 28 cm x 22 cm x 10 cm.
Very good condition.
